FAST-Meta Sequencing

Our expedited shotgun metagenomics service offers comprehensive microbial genome analysis for high-quality gDNA samples. Raw data delivered in 5 business days with our rapid, affordable workflow.

How Is FAST-Meta Different?

FAST-Meta uses a simplified workflow without customized project setup. Samples proceed directly to library preparation and sequencing, significantly reducing turnaround time. The service delivers results in 5 business days, and provides raw sequencing data (FASTQ files), making it ideal for labs that plan to perform their own downstream bioinformatics analysis.

Frequently Asked Questions

We strongly recommend the DNeasy PowerSoil Pro Kit for optimal gDNA quality and insert size. Other extraction methods may be used but final data quality may vary.

Minimum specs: A260/230 ≥1.8, ≥5 ng/µl, ≥15 µl.

  • 10M reads: Shallow shotgun — initial community profiling or pilot studies
  • 20M reads: Standard depth — suitable for most microbial community analyses
  • 40M reads: Deep shotgun — complex communities, low-biomass samples, or functional annotation

No. Quoted read counts (10M, 20M, 40M) are targets, not guarantees. Final output may vary based on sample quality, DNA integrity, microbial community complexity, and host DNA contamination levels. FAST-Meta operates on a Best Effort Basis — data is delivered upon completion of the first sequencing run.

In the event that the output falls significantly short of the target throughput, one complimentary re-run will be performed using the existing library upon client request. Please note that Psomagen does not guarantee the outcome of the re-run, and is not liable for final data quality or yield resulting from sample-related factors.

No. FAST-Meta delivers raw FASTQ files only (non-filtered, non-trimmed) along with data quality report (containing read count and quality value). If you require taxonomic profiling, functional analysis, or other downstream bioinformatics, please contact us about our standard Shotgun Metagenomic Sequencing or Bioinformatics services.

Get in touch with your sales representative at inquiry@psomagen.com or visit our order site to request a consultation and start the process.

Before your samples are shipped, you will need to complete the next-generation sequencing (NGS) order form and return it to your sales contact.

Yes, upon customer request. If the sequencing output falls significantly short of the target throughput, one complimentary re-run will be performed using the existing library upon client requests — no new library preparation is required. Please note the following:

  • Maximum 1 complimentary re-run per project
  • Requires sufficient remaining library volume
  • Psomagen does not guarantee the outcome of the re-run
  • Psomagen is not liable for final data quality or yield resulting from sample-related factors

Yes — FAST-Meta will proceed even if samples do not fully meet the A260/230 ratio, concentration, or volume requirements, in order to maintain your TAT. However, data yield, quality, and insert size may be adversely affected by sample characteristics outside of our control.

We strongly recommend submitting excess volume and concentration beyond the minimum requirements to maximize the chance of meeting your target throughput. Psomagen is not liable for data quality or yield outcomes resulting from suboptimal sample quality.

We strongly recommend the DNeasy PowerSoil Pro Kit for optimal gDNA quality and insert size. Other extraction methods may be used, but final data quality and insert size may vary. Minimum specifications: A260/230 ≥ 1.8, ≥ 5 ng/µl, ≥ 15 µl.

Data is delivered via sFTP and is available for 30 days from the delivery notification. After this period, Psomagen is not responsible for data recovery. Please download and back up your data promptly.

The FAST order portal is currently under development and will launch soon. It will allow customers to select their throughput, configure sample details, and get an instant quote entirely online. In the meantime, submit an inquiry and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Terms and Conditions

1. Limitations: RUO. Not for clinical or diagnostic purposes. No warranty on data usability. Psomagen is not liable for sample failures. Please note that if you perform strict trimming of invalid adapters and low-quality sequences to ensure data accuracy, the final total base pair (Gb) count may decrease compared to the raw data Psomagen provided.

2. Data delivery: Raw FASTQ files and a Data Quality Report (read count and Q30 metrics; no advanced bioinformatics reports) are delivered via sFTP. Delivered via sFTP.  Data available for 30 days after delivery. Read counts are targets, not guaranteed.

3. Re-run policy: If sequencing output falls significantly short of the target throughput, 1 complimentary re-run is available upon customer request, using the existing library. Re-run outcome is not guaranteed. Requires sufficient remaining library volume.

4. Turnaround time and billing: TAT from sample receipt. No compensation for delays. Customers are billed upon sample receipt. No cancellation after library prep.

5. Sample responsibility: Client is responsible for sample quality. FAST-Meta proceeds even with off-spec samples. Excess volume strongly recommended.
